Preventing maternal mortality in Latin America

What are the challenges that mothers in Latin America must face? And how do we re:solve them?

We are joined by Dr. Johanna Contreras, founding member of the American Heart Association and an associate professor at The Mount Sinai hospital in New York City. Dr. Johanna is spreading awareness of disparities in maternal health care, and the link between maternal and cardiovascular health throughout Latin America. Her initiatives call to improve maternal resources & healthcare accessibility in Central and South America, supporting new mothers and their babies.

Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 disease of women all around the world. On top of this, Latin American women tend to have higher risk factors. What efforts can we make to support mothers before and after pregnancy in this part of the world?

To listen to the episode in Spanish, we interviewed Drs. Ana and Claudia, in our episode titled 4. ¿Que podemos hacer para prevenir la alta incidencia de mortalidad materna en Latinoamerica?
